Vidushi Shruti Sadolikar Katkar is a noted exponent of the Jaipur- Atrauli Gharana of Hindustani Classical Music.
Shrutiji was trained by her father and Guru, Pt. Wamanrao Sadolikar (Disciple of Ustad Bhurji Khan and Ustad Alladiya Khan, the pioneer of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana of Indian Classical Music). She also had the good fortune of learning from Ustad Gullubhai Jasdanwalla (an illustrious disciple of Ustad Manji Khan and Ustad Alladiya Khan) and Ustad Azizuddin Khan, grandson of Ustad Alladiya Khan. During her research on Haveli Sangeet, Shrutiji received guidance from H.H. Shri Parag Baba.
A graduate in languages from the University of Mumbai, Shrutiji is a ‘Sangeet Visharad’ of Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal. She did her M.A. (Music) from the S.N.D.T. Women’s University, Mumbai, with flying colors. She was awarded the ‘Prominent Alumnus Award’ on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the S.N.D.T. Women’s University.
She was a recipient of the ‘Bhulabhai Memorial Institute Scholarship,’ and the coveted ‘Surashree Kesarbai Kerkar Scholarship,’ N.C.P.A., Mumbai. An awardee of the Homi Bhabha Fellowship, N.C.P.A., Mumbai, Shrutiji has also been awarded the ‘Shanmukha Sangeetha Shiromani’ Award by Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Sabha, Mumbai. An awardee of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, she is also a recipient of the award, ‘Icons of Maharashtra’, Mumbai; the Swarayogini Prabha Atre Award; the Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan Award for her contribution to the Education Sector by the Rotary Club of Lucknow; the Jewel of Ruia Award from her alma mater, the Ramnarain Ruia College and most recently the Mallikarjun Mansur National Award, Dharwad; the Music Forum Award for Research, Mumbai; the Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Rangabharati Samman, Lucknow; the ICN International Award for the highest contribution to Education, Lucknow, 2020; and the ‘Gurugandharv’ Gururao Deshpande National Award, Bengaluru, 2020.
A most sought-after concert artist worldwide, Shrutiji has many cassettes, Cds, and LPs to her credit. Her educational CD, ‘The Raga Guide,’ was produced and marketed by Nimbus Records, UK. Shrutiji has also given lecture-demonstrations in the U.S.A., U.K., Canada, Holland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Kuwait, Dubai, Muscat, Mauritius, and Australia. Some of her noteworthy performances include the Darbar Festival, UK, the International Devotional Music Festival, UK, the Theatre de la Ville in Paris, France, the Edinburgh Music Festival and the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow among others.
Her voice was selected as one of the most remarkable voices of 9 female singers from all over the world for the CD, GIFTED WOMEN OF THE WORLD, released and marketed by the NOA PERFUME, Paris.
As a tribute to her father, Shrutiji revived the musical play SANGEET TULSIDAS after 60 years (Pt. Wamanraoji had played the protagonist in the play in 1930). As a producer-music director- coordinator, she presented the Marathi musical play SANGEET SAMSHAY KALLOL at the WORLD MUSIC THEATRE FESTIVAL in the Netherlands, April 1999.
Shrutiji has been a visiting professor at the Rotterdam Conservatorium, Holland. She has been a Visiting Guru at the I.T.C. Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata and Post Graduate Department of Music, S.N.D.T. Women’s University, Mumbai. She was Professor at the Department of Music, University of Mumbai.
Shrutiji has served as the Vice Chancellor of the Bhatkhande Music Institute Deemed to be University, Lucknow, between the years 2009 to 2020.
